January 27, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Audrey Alma Tate at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home in Regina, SK on January 27, 2023 at the age of 89.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters Millie and Betty; her four children Janet (Ken) Green, Jeff (Louise) Laverdiere, Gord (Donna) Laverdiere and Melinda (Dan) Anderson; her grandchildren Rhoda, Vicki, Doug, Pamela, Robert, Neil, Dustin, Jordan, Brynn, Cole, Dylan, Brittany, Teah and Chloe; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Walt and Norm and her sisters Joan, Dorothy and Gwen.
Audrey was born on April 16, 1933 in Dilke, SK to John and Emily Tate. She was the seventh of eight children. Mom’s family moved from Dilke to Regina when her father accepted a job as a civilian member of the RCMP. She graduated from Balfour Collegiate and trained in Yorkton, SK as a Registered Nurse. Mom worked as a RN in Aneroid, Rosetown and Assiniboia hospitals. She left the hospital after accepting a position as a Public Health Nurse. Mom travelled all over Southern Saskatchewan providing health care for rural communities and farm families. Upon retiring she moved to Katepwa Lake and worked part time at Wolseley Hospital. She re-entered the workforce when she moved back to Regina where she worked as the Apheresis Coordinator at Red Cross before becoming an Assistant Director of Care at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home.
Upon her second retirement, Mom moved to Mossbank, SK near Janet and her family. She loved to tend to her yard and was proud to share it with all who visited. She was also a volunteer at the museum.
Mom eventually sold her home and moved to an apartment in Moose Jaw, SK in the same complex as her sister Betty. She volunteered much of her time at the Mae Wilson Theatre.
Mom was a practical person and as her health started to deteriorate, she moved to senior care in Regina and closer to Jeff, Gord and Melinda.
Mom loved to travel and took many pictures of the places she visited. She was very proud she had been to every province in Canada. She had a keen interest in her family ancestry and spent many hours researching and documenting information for all of us.
A private Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date.
We would like to thank the staff at Santa Maria for their wonderful care of Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Audrey's name to Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
Until we meet again Mom.
