Herback, Anton

December 12, 2025

Anton Herback

It is with heavy hearts the Herback family shares the passing of their loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer Tony left this world on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the age of 91.

The family had the opportunity to celebrate his birthday on November 1. He left his life as he lived it - on his own terms. Anyone who knew Tony understood baseball was his passion. He could often be found amongst a crowd of people telling his new favourite joke with a grin on his face and a sparkle in his eye. He was a humble, hardworking man who provided for his wife and seven kids through his plumbing business for over 50 years which he was so proud of. As hard as he worked a summer holiday was always planned. This always included camping with friends and family and, of course, baseball.

Tony was predeceased by his wife and the love of his life Gil; his parents George and Vera Herback; his brother Luke and his sister Emma. He is survived by his children Marty (Shannon), Jeff (Diane), Terry (Sherry), Dan (Kathy), Cheryl (Rocco), Shelley, Trevor (Tanya); 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brothers Larry, Lorne, Albert and Aloise; and friend Wilma Kinney.

Tony’s family would like to especially thank the Palliative Care Staff at the Regina Pasqua Hospital for the care, compassion and grace shown to our Dad.

There will be no funeral service and the family will hold a graveside service in the Spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NRLL (North Regina Little League) where Tony coached for 22 years, #250 - 918 Albert Street, Regina, SK S4R 2P7.

So sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I have so many great memories of your dad and family. All the camping trips we had together. Our families were inseparable in the summer. Oh to have those days back. Your tribute to your dad is heartwarming. Certainly captured the great life he lived. So glad that my dad was able to see him before he passed. He is now at peace and with your mom. Remember the great memories that you have and they will always keep him close. Love you all.

I guess I knew Uncle Tony for well over 6 decades, and especially remember the incredible work that he did to install plumbing in the old house on the land we purchased from Van Allens south of Shaunavon in the mid-1950s. It was a luxury that was hard to describe after a few years of the old hand pump and hauling pails of water. As the years passed we had frequent visits with Uncle Tony and Aunt Gil either at our farm, in Shaunavon or in Regina. Always lots of laughs and shenanigans often involving many of the kids. He shared the love of baseball as I did and his involvement in the sport was recognized around Regina and the province. He also had a love for his Cadillacs. As far as I can remember he always had one and that suited him just fine. Work hard, drive a Cadillac. He will be greatly missed by many, and Donna and I offer our heartfelt condolences to his children and their families and his surviving siblings and their families. Hope to see many of you in the spring. Merry Christmas Uncle and may you rest in peace.

What a fine Uncle I had the pleasure of knowing. And what a special family he raised. As I sit here tonight with a blizzard cranking outside I can’t help thinking of the many trips Uncle Tony must have made to this farm years ago. Even now when I turn a tap on my thoughts are when he did the plumbing in this house some 60 years ago or so. Still no leaks. A testament to a man of skill and integrity. Our thoughts are with his family. Love you guys.

Our hearts are broken and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends today. 91 years of a life well lived but never long enough. We spent most of our adult life away from Regina but always enjoyed our time back home with the family. Tony and Gil were gracious hosts and fun and laughter was part of it. No one ever left without a couple of Tony’s jokes. All CLASSICS. He will be truly missed but I bet there is more laughter in heaven today! I hope God has a sense of humour,,,,,
