Alice Irene Huber (Kruse) passed away January 9, 2025. She was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1931 to Charles and Rose Kruse. Alice was a busy young girl who could be found ice skating, dancing, socializing and helping take care of her two younger siblings William (Bill) Kruse and Deanna Rivard (Kruse).
She would meet a new classmate in grade 9 named Jack (John) Huber. They were eventually married in the summer of 1954. They then moved to the big city of Regina to start their life together where they remained for the entire 70 years of their marriage. Alice worked for the CBC until giving birth to their first daughter Nancy Jacoby (Huber). A few short years later she had a second daughter Judy Huber.
Alice and her family would build strong friendships and community with their neighbours on Lynn Bay where they enjoyed summers outside in the pool where everyone was always welcome. Alice loved to cook and bake and always enjoyed hosting, whether it was a formal cocktail or dinner party, their annual Christmas Eve party or a fun, spontaneous pool party. There was always fresh baked cookies at the ready as she continued to host her kids and their friends as well as her grandkids and friends at the pool on Lynn Bay.
Next to her family, bridge was her second passion. She was a well-known Gold Life Master spending several afternoons and evenings at the Duplicate Bridge Club in Regina and travelling to many tournaments around the continent with her bridge partners.
Alice also loved to travel. She and Jack travelled the world together. Her favourite trip was to China. They also celebrated many Christmases in warmer climates with extended family, and life long friends Hugh (Jack’s partner) and Lois MacKenzie and their family.
Alice spent many hours volunteering at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. You could find her there attending lectures, in the Gallery Shop helping customers or making her own purchases of Saskatchewan art. Her interest in the arts community also included being a long-time volunteer with the Regina Women’s Symphony Association.
Alice was a veracious reader of books and newspapers and an avid walker. She spent most mornings touring her neighbourhood or Wascana Park with her walking buddies.
Alice was predeceased by her daughter Judy (Dean Hundseth) and her siblings Bill and Deanna. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. Jack Huber and her daughter Nancy (Ray) Jacoby. Her legacy will also be remembered by her grandchildren Luke (Anne-Marie) Jacoby and Jane (Colin) Kendall. She was known as GGMa to her four great-grandchildren Isla, Oaklyn, Jacoby and Lainey.
We would like to thank all of the caregivers and staff at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Unit 3-3 for their kind support and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2025.

As kids, Doug and I knew ‘Auntie Alice and Uncle Jack’ thru the long friendship/partnership they had with our parents, Hugh and Lois! What treasured memories we all have! It goes without saying that the entire MacKenzie/Burns families will remember Alice with a big smile and bigger heart! It was obvious that she loved to be surrounded by her precious family, she was so very proud! Our family times together with the extended Huber family, especially on our many trips to Minot, many optometric conventions, Palm Desert and Mexico leave us all feeling so very grateful to have shared so many fun filled and legendary times together! Alice will be greatly missed! We will always have her close to our hearts especially when our kids and grandkids gather to continue on the gifts and traditions she gave us!
