June 3, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Adolf Carol Howorko on June 3, 2023, at the grand age of 89. Adolf passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, devoted father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, as well as a great friend to many. Known for his love of life and positivity, along with his strength and determination, he battled heart and kidney failure, exceeding his life expectancy by over 4.5 years. He continued his fight to live until the end, waiting for all of his children to be by his side. His departure has left an immense void in our lives that is indescribable, but his memory will forever be cherished and celebrated by everyone who knew him.
Adolf Howorko was born on December 2, 1933, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Joseph Howorko; his sisters Lee (Huggins) and Helen (Schurr) and his brother Joe Howorko.
Adolf is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kay Howorko, with whom he shared over 63 years of marriage; his beloved children Janice (Lawrence Larkin), Nadine (Daryn Skipp), Doug (Karen Coffey), Jason (Adrienne Lindblad); his treasured grandchildren Alicia (Keegan), Brayden (Kate), Ryan (Farrah), Chantal (Rick), Oliver (Harrison), Shae (Adria), Presley, Carson, Alex, Aaron, Anya and great-grandchildren Theo, Sofia and Sky; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Adolf and Kay created a strong bonded family, which was a source of immense joy and pride for them both. Adolf was honoured and respected as the pinnacle of his family, and he cherished the relationship he shared with each and every one. He believed in the power of love, creating and nurturing a supportive environment for every member of his family. Every Sunday at the ‘Howorko-Homestead’ began with mass at church followed by family dinner, where his family congregated to chat and share their daily life experiences, debate and laugh heartily. He enjoyed hearing about everyone’s accomplishments and even the struggles when times were difficult, always offering compassionate support and advice when he could. His shoulder alone gave the comfort everyone needed, and he listened well.
Adolf had a long and successful career with SaskTel, spanning over 34 years, where he began climbing telephone poles, eventually climbing the ladder into management. ‘Hardworko’ was his work ethic and he tried to instill this value in everyone he met.
Education was important to him. He certified as an electrician followed by a business administration certification from the University of Saskatchewan. He continued to self-educate himself to be a master at DIY, learning how to fix anything with duct tape, silicone and a soldering iron!
His passion for DIY eventually led him into residential construction, building houses and his architectural design still exists in numerous homes today. A keen entrepreneur, Adolf partnered in a pool construction business, and made contributions towards the development of a hearing aid component. Adolf later found an interest in the stock market and invested in rental properties over the years.
But Adolf’s dedication to making a difference in this world extended beyond his family, career and private business ventures. He mentored countless individuals throughout his life and generously supported various charities and social causes, being involved over the years as a volunteer in Knights of Columbus, Meals on Wheels, CNIB, and SaskTel Pioneers. Ardently committed to his faith, he was a member of his church, Christ the King, spanning over 55 years, where he was actively involved until he was no longer able to assist due to medical reasons.
In addition to his many contributions, Adolf had many passions - a deep love for sports, current affairs, global politics, entertainment and travel. In his earlier years he curled, soon discovering golf as his true passion, as well as his annual vacations to Phoenix, Arizona. This granted him the opportunity to continue his passion for golf throughout the entire year! Adolf’s enthusiasm as a golfer eventually inspired him to become a marshall at the Regina Goulet Golf Course. Being outgoing and gregarious, he relished the social interactions with the patrons, forging numerous friendships and became a familiar and friendly face. He also discovered a new business venture, collecting lost golf balls!
But Adolf’s favourite pastime of all was the countless hours he invested in watching FOX News. He was an intelligent man with a vast knowledge of current events nationally and globally. He willingly engaged in and enjoyed political debates with people he met. Adolf was also an avid bridge player, loved to tell jokes, enjoyed music (especially Neil Diamond), and his greatest pleasure of all was a good old back massage.
Adolf created an inviting and welcoming home for all of his family and friends throughout the years, hosting numerous gatherings and dinner parties. He radiated a lovable aura of positive energy to every room he entered – from the twinkle in his eyes or his infectious smile that lit up the room. Adolf was truly larger than life and gave laughter and love to us all.
Adolf’s memory will live on indelibly etched in our hearts and our minds. Through the values, morals and beliefs he instilled in us, his great legacy will continue to live on. May his soul find eternal peace and may his spirit continue to guide us all throughout our living years. Dearest Adolf, may you rest in peace. You have touched the hearts of many, and we all will miss you.
Funeral Mass and Celebration of Adolf’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, Saskatchewan. Live streaming of the service may be viewed at https://youtube.com/live/TGabn7szTLs?feature=share
In lieu of flowers, Adolf’s family kindly requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his memory.

Uncle Adolf was my mother's (Helen Tomick nee Zarski) first cousin. As children visiting Saskatoon we always thought he was the handsome one of his siblings and that Kay was so lucky. Condolences to all the family.

There had only been a few times spent with that side of my Dads family (Schurr); Jason’s wedding, Adolph and Kay’s anniversary and birthdays and a few other times. But those times were great memories where Adolph had left a great impression on me as a youngin. My most deepest condolences to the entire Howorko family ♥️
