Assman, Vernetta

September 2, 2024

Vernetta Assman

With saddened hearts we say goodbye to our dear mother who passed peacefully at the age of 97. Vernetta was one of eleven children raised on the family farm near Killaly, SK. Vernetta was a loving mother to her two daughters, Brenda and Beverly, who she raised on her own in Winnipeg, MB. Vernetta took the girls on many vacations over the years to Melville, SK and surrounding area to visit relatives. In the Summer of 1967 Vernetta moved the family to Melville, where she started working at St. Paul Lutheran Home.

In 1972, Vernetta moved to Regina, where by this time some of her sisters had also moved. She worked at the Army & Navy Department Store for 19 years and retired in 1991. She made many friends at the store and had lots of fun times with her sisters. Vernetta moved to a Seniors apartment building in 1989 and lived there for 32 years - the longest-residing resident at that time. She was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

By 2021 Vernetta was not able to live on her own and was in Qu’Appelle House Care Home for a time and then Sunset Long Term Care Home since February 2023 until her passing on September 2, 2024. Thank you to the staff at both of these Care Homes for the excellent care and compassion they showed to Vernetta.

Vernetta was predeceased by her parents Carl and Sophie Assman; brothers Alfred, Clifford, Philip and John Assman; her sisters Eleanor Christoffel, Eileen Tank, Gladys Piller and Frieda Sastaunik.

Vernetta is survived by her daughters Brenda (Cyril) Beaulieu and Beverly Johnston; her sisters Mary Shpak and Emma Austin; her sisters-in-law Marie Osman and Donna Assman.

Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3825 Hillsdale Street, Regina, SK. Interment will take place in the Summer of 2025.

Our sympathy for your loss! I remember Vernetta in Melville as a very special kind loving mother. I also remember the different potato German perogies she made. Never had anything like those! Yum! My mother met her in Regina over the years & always spoke kindly of her. Sending condolences to Brenda & Cyril, Bev, her grandchildren & all of her family!
