Statler, Stacey "Muzz"

January 15, 2026

Stacey "Muzz" Statler

On Thursday, January 15, 2026 Stacey “Muzz” Statler - the man, the myth, the legend - passed away peacefully and officially went fishing full time.

Stacey was born March 23, 1963, in Regina, Saskatchewan to Merna and Frank Statler. The youngest of the Statler clan, joining brothers Len and Tim, he quickly mastered the art of pushing buttons, dodging consequences and delivering perfectly timed one-liners. He spent much of his youth in Pense, Saskatchewan causing trouble with the neighborhood boys and began developing the sense of humor that would become both his trademark and everyone else’s problem.

In 1988, Stacey married his wife Colleen (Anderson). In 1990, they moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where they built a life full of family, laughter and love. Stacey took pride in building a family, home and yard of his dreams alongside Colleen. Apart from renovating their home and spending countless hours perfecting their yard, Stacey also enjoyed date nights at Rosie’s with Colleen and reminiscing about their travels to places such as: Alaska, Ireland and Slovakia.

Throughout the years of fulfilling his role as a Dad and “#1 FAN”, Stacey loved attending his children’s basketball, volleyball, hockey games and out-of-town tournaments, all of which doubled as social events. Stacey was deeply committed to his family, always finding ways to make their lives easier - often quietly, sometimes stubbornly.

Stacey worked for over 39 years for the Government of Saskatchewan in various maintenance positions. Of the 39 years, many were spent at Valley View Centre, primarily as a Red Seal Journeyman Painter. Throughout his time at Valley View, he formed many lifelong friendships. Stacey obtained his education from NAIT in Edmonton, Alberta, which he proudly spoke of in any conversation that mentioned NAIT.

A devoted Moose Jaw Warriors fan, Stacey rarely missed a home game, holding court from his usual seat with trusted game partners Herb and Kate - and in recent years, Kate’s family. He was always ready with expert commentary, whether it was requested or not. In the off-season, Stacey could be found gardening, fishing or participating in numerous car shows with James and their beloved 1978 Chevrolet Nova.

Stacey adored being a grandpa and enjoyed spending time with his “little people”. Being “Grandpa Muzz” was quite possibly his truest calling. Reading, teaching kindness, identifying bugs, birds, and, of course, talking about fish were all a part of the School of Grandpa Muzz. Being a grandpa allowed him to keep his inner child alive and fuelled both his softened personality and sense of humor.

Stacey was predeceased by his parents Merna and Frank Statler and his brother Tim Statler. He is survived by his brother Len Statler (Regina); sister-in-law Alyson Statler; nieces Leslee Laing (Kelly Mauthe) (Sherwood Park), Tonya and Mark Sandberg (Calgary), Kim Statler and Ryan Hicks (Regina), and Chandra and Mike Schubert (Boulder, CO); his parents-in-law Grace and Ernie Anderson; and sisters-in-law Lisa Anderson and Shannon Anderson (both of Regina).

Stacey’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Colleen; his children Christopher (Rose) Meadows and their children Freya and Sophie; Kate (Brett) Bookout and their children (Cedar, Boyd, and Stacey); and James Statler - all of whom were deeply loved.

A Celebration of Stacey’s Life will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Sportsman Center, 276 Home Street East, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Program to start at 1:30 p.m. with conversation to follow. Laughter is expected. Stories are encouraged. Embellished fishing tales are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may contribute donations to the Moose Jaw Humane Society in Stacey’s memory - because if there was one thing Stacey liked more than fishing, it was animals.
