October 13, 2024
With hopes that there are woodworking shops in heaven, we say good-bye to our beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and loyal friend, Paul Douglas Gebhardt, who passed away on October 13, 2024 at the age of 79 years. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lee; daughters Dawn (Christian) and Kim (Cleland); son-in-law Jarret; grandchildren Naarah, Lillah, Kaede and Kobe; his two brothers Gordon (Vera) and Brian (Linda); sister-in-law Wendy (Greg); brother-in-law Dave; and nieces and nephew. Paul was predeceased by his parents Rudy and Lizzy; as well as his sister Gail (Galenzoski) and brother-in-law Jay (Henderson).
Paul grew up on the family farm near Markinch, Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with an Agricultural Engineering degree in 1968. After graduation, Paul worked for John Deere for 8 years and then the Provincial Government in the Department of Agriculture for 25 years. Paul spent the last 10 years of his career with the Federal Government consulting with small businesses. Paul very much enjoyed his work and taught his kids and grandkids to work hard and follow a path that would make them happy.
Paul met Lee, a secretary in the Agricultural Engineering Department, in 1966. Paul came up with every excuse in the book to go into the office to see her. He asked her if she wanted a ride home one day and so began a 58-year-long run with stops in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. Lee and Paul made their home in Regina in 1976 where they raised their two daughters.
Paul and his brother Brian took over the family farm in 1983 and Paul farmed until 2012, with equipment almost as old as he was! Not one to sit still after retirement, Paul took a job at the gun counter at Wholesale Sports as well as continued farming for his good friend Rob where he got to drive combines with air conditioning and doors that closed!
Paul was a skilled carpenter, building furniture for their home as well as for their daughters and many family and friends. His children and grandchildren have heirloom furniture he made, a testament to his skill. Paul's custom grain coasters and clocks have travelled the world and were sold at local art galleries. He was also a jack-of-all-trades - electrician, plumber, mechanic - and always had a to-do list when visiting his daughters.
In his retirement, Paul continued to enjoy the loves of his life: coffee chats with Lee, visits with friends and neighbours, woodworking, farming, hunting, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Paul taught the girls and his grandkids to target shoot at the farm and loved to work on projects in his workshop with them. Paul's ingenuity, stubbornness, and sense of humour live on in his daughters and grandchildren.
The family would like to express gratitude for the extraordinary care that Paul received at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre over the last 5 years and more recently at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to either of these organizations.
A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, 3018 Doan Drive, Regina, Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. If you are not able to join in person, Bread of Life Lutheran Church will live stream the service via Facebook live.

Lee, I'm so sorry to hear about Paul's passing. Some of the best working years for me were when you and Juanita held the fort down on the second floor. I'm privileged that I got to meet Paul on one or two occasions. We always seemed to find time for social gatherings back then. Thinking about you and your family. Love, Ann.
