Jones, Kenneth Grant

Kenneth Grant Jones

With love and gratitude, the family of Kenneth (Ken) Grant Jones announces his peaceful passing on October 3, 2025, at the age of 73. Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan, Ken built a life rooted in kindness, curiosity, and generosity.

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Evelyn Jones; his father’s second wife Pearl; his father-in-law Eric Taylor and sister-in-law Diane.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Deborah; his mother-in-law Ann; his sister Bonnie; siblings-in-law Stephen, Myra (Marshall), and David (Krista); his son Sheldon (Tammy), and his daughter Stephanie.

Ken also leaves behind his nephew Allan; nieces Cathy, Amanda, Natalie, Alyssa, and Lindsay; as well as his step-grandsons Brandon and Dustin. He will also be fondly remembered by Lux (Sheldon and Tammy’s niece), who affectionately called him Grandpa Ken.

A dedicated draftsperson for the Saskatchewan provincial government, first with Energy and Mines, and later with Highways, Ken took pride in his work and his attention to detail. He also found fulfillment in his love of photography, both professionally having captured numerous weddings and special events and as an amateur with a love of finding nature's beauty in crocuses, sundogs and anything that caught his eye. Ken also had a passion for volunteering and was always willing to lend a hand where it was needed most. Not many were willing to work outside in the winter, but Ken did for over 20 years selling Christmas Trees at the Y's Men's lot in east Regina. He was also one of the brains behind the Outdoor Hockey League, allowing children whose families might not have been able to afford organized hockey to have a place to play and learn the fundamentals of hockey and teamwork. Ken also loved to put all the necessary work into growing a garden in the Cathedral community garden plots. Most of his friends and family have had the pleasure of enjoying some of the thousands of tomatoes Ken lovingly grew.

After retiring, he discovered a new passion for finding and polishing rocks and joined a local rock club and gained many more close friendships while continuing to find beauty in nature’s hidden treasures much as he always had in life.

Those who knew Ken will remember his warm smile, gentle humor, and the thoughtful way he connected with others. When asked how he was doing, his go to response was always "happy, healthy, crazy!". His kindness, creativity, and generosity of spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

We would also like to extend our special thanks to Ken's oncologist Dr. Salim and all the doctors, nurses and staff of the Regina General and Pasqua Hospitals as well as the 2-5 hospice unit at Wascana Rehab. While he fought hard, he had the best care possible.

A Celebration of Life presided over by Rev. Darrell Reine will be held at Westminster United Church in Regina, Saskatchewan, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.

As Ken was also a very passionate CFL fan, specifically of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and a man of deep faith, in lieu of flowers, donations in Ken’s memory may be made to CFL Fans Fight Cancer or to his place of worship Westminster United Church.

I went to both Davin (now and Central) with Ken. He was a friendly, kind fellow who always had time to stop and talk. One of his impressive achievements was organizing a school reunion, back in the late 80s. Always kind, as we grew up together and lived fairly close to each other, Ken got me involved in his Star Weekly delivery route in the mid 60s from which I learned many positive life lessons which helped me in later years as an adult. That big smile of his always made my day. Ken will be missed.

I will miss Ken. I met him when I joined the Geological Survey in 1990. Ken was one of the draftsmen responsible for helping us make maps. Within a couple years he and the other draftsmen were faced with making the transition from pen and ink maps for which they’d been trained to the new world of digital mapmaking. Ken was eager to learn the new skills and was quickly pushing back the frontiers. He came to me just before one conference and asked if I’d like to have my map coloured as a first for the Survey and a learning experience for him. I quickly agreed and his product was the envy of my colleagues. Years later after he’d left the Survey he sought me out to supply information about the rocks he’d been tumbling for his new lapidary hobby. The timing wasn’t always ideal for these sessions but Ken was so enthusiastic, I couldn’t say no. It was important to him to do the best job he could with the jewellery making but he also wanted to add some information to make his gift jewellery as meaningful as he could. That was the kind of thoughtful guy he was and he was certainly excited to give his gifts. They will be especially precious now. Ken will be missed. My deep condolences go out to his family and friends.

My deepest sympathies to Deb and Stephanie and to all who loved Ken - and there were many! He had many unsung talents which he generously shared. I am deeply grateful for his gift of photographs from my ordination - as are my colleagues whom he also photographed. He was a man of deep faith, lived out in his generosity, kindness, and unbounded curiosity. He truly understood that each of us has a story, and that it is a blessing to listen to people. The world is a better place for his having lived, and poorer for his passing. May God welcome him with open arms and may you feel his loving presence until you are reunited in Glory

Graham Bradley and I send our deepest sympathy to Ken's family & other friends. For years, Ken & Graham would have breakfast together either at Fusion or the Serb Club, then take Henry (our Corgi) for a walk. Henry loved Ken. Ken & Deb also joined Graham's Thursday night Open House regularly. One of the best evenings was the night my brother Bruce (who is a geologist) was there. Ken & Bruce knew a lot of people in common; many amusing stories were told. Later, Graham commented that was one of the most interesting of his gatherings! May his family find peace in the many stories & happy remembrances of Ken.
