December 24, 2025
Jean Cecilia Maurer, age 91, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Clarence Maurer, whom she missed dearly every day since his passing on April 26, 2014. She was born on May 9, 1934 in Hodgeville, SK to Anthony and Catherine Kraus.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her six children Laverne (Morgan) Williams, Todd (Brenda), Jeff, Kevin (Dawn), Lisa (Mark) Sombach, and Trevor (Kristie); she was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren Naomi, Elias, Tylor, Aimee, Sydney, Jake, Ryan, Allyson, Tyler, Zachary and Megan; a cherished great-grandmother to Lorenzo, Nico and Christiano; her sister Anne Kraus; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers Joe and Robert and her sisters Elizabeth, Ida, Helen, Agnes, Irene, Clara and Bernice.
Jean had a deep passion for gardening, baking, and music. She met her husband Clarence while he was playing in a band in Hodgeville - an early chapter in a lifelong love story. After their marriage, they lived briefly in Moose Jaw, SK before settling in Regina, where they began raising their family. Jean worked at a bank while Clarence worked at a grocery store.
In 1966, they moved to Weyburn, SK to begin farming, where all six of their children were raised. Jean was an exceptional homemaker, and her cinnamon buns were legendary among family and friends. In 1983, Jean and Clarence retired from farming and opened Maurer’s Meats, a business known for its extraordinary quality and care.
Throughout their years in Weyburn, Jean’s remarkable green thumb was on full display. She managed acres of garden with pride and dedication. Jean took pride in everything she did - a value she instilled deeply in her children.
She enjoyed golf and curling, but nothing more than singing. Jean was an avid member of the Octavius Choir during her years in Weyburn, where she found deep fellowship through music. After Jean and Clarence moved to Cochrane in 2007, she extended her love of community by founding the Red Hat group. She was a devoted quilter who created treasured heirloom quilts for her family. Above all, Jean cherished time spent laughing with family and friends.
She will be dearly missed.
The family extends special thanks to Dove House for the exceptional care Jean received during her final year and to the staff at College Park in Regina, where she resided since 2020.
Funeral Mass celebrating Jean’s resilient and well-lived life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 425 Broad Street North, Regina, SK.
In Jean’s memory, the family encourages the planting of a garden, tree, or flowers - something that will grow and bring joy, just as she did. Contributions may be made to the Weyburn Plant-A-Tree Program.
